We got another sneak peek at the the women of "The Real L Word" the other night after "Nurse Jackie." In the clip, they discuss how their friends would describe them, when they first realized they like girls, their biggest turn-ons and turn-offs, and the craziest places they've had sex (which, it turns out, are places just as unexciting as that question).
Be sure to tune in next week after "The United States of Tara" for a clip of the girls playing "I Never."
Yeah, I'm kidding. I hope.
Oh, and that pic of Mia Kirshner beneath the video below has nothing to do with anything. I just LOVE it. And her. So there.
Thanks to the power of her fans, Facebook and Twitter, Betty White hosted Saturday Night Live last weekend. And thanks to Mashable, here are all of the skits in which she appeared, plus her monologue:
Last night, Showtime gave us a sneak peek (video below) at its new lesbian reality show, "The Real L World," which premieres on June 20, at 10pm.
Yep, round two is nearing, so let's all hope that we can live, love and
laugh, but not lose this time.
In the "Behind the Scenes" video, we're given an up close and personal look at the characters we got merely a glimpse of in April, the women who will replace Bette, Tina, Alice, Shane, Jenny, et al. I won't rehash, because you probably have eyes and ears and at least one unoccupied little finger to click the play button below to see for yourself. But I will tell you this: The very first line of the script — "From the creator of The L Word..." — turned me off. And although predictable, those seven words add up to nothing good.
Ilene Chaiken is still living a fairy tale in which she gets to make up her own reality and resume. Even though I reminded her and all of you last year that she had more than a little help creating "The L Word," she's just going to go on ignoring that giant detail.
Oh, Ilene, there's a perfect word to describe your stubborn ways, and it rhymes with 'fociopath.'
That said, the good news is that the bar for lesbian reality shows couldn't be set much lower (thanks to the cast of Logo's "Gimme Sugar"), so rising above it shouldn't be hard. The bad news is there's just enough air between the floor and that bar to cause me a great deal of concern.
Did you arrive a little late to the "Glee" party? Perhaps you've never seen "Glee" at all, have no idea what all the fuss is about, and haven't yet heard that it won a Golden Globe and a Peabody.
Perhaps you don't know that when it returned from hiatus the other night, a whopping 13.66 million people saw it.
Maybe you just need a simple, humorous primer, If so, this is your lucky day.
Out of all Bravo's Housewives on both coasts, Bethenny is my favorite. I think she's by far the funniest of all the women and the most direct. Is she perfect? No. But to paraphrase fellow cast-member Kelly Bensimon, "She's up here, and everyone else is down there."
Oh, Kelly, you're so pretty and tan and crazy.
I'm happy for Bethenny, and I hope she starts her new life with her husband and baby by announcing that this season will be her last on the show. Go, Bethenny! Run! Run as fast as you can away from those crazy women with their bulging eyes and horrible taste in men and furnishings.
Anyway, I couldn't help but chuckle when I saw her sporting more of a bulge in her one-shade-shy-of-white wedding gown than I'd imagined she would. I thought, You go girl! Because nothing says "fuck the rules" to society quite like an attractive 'society girl'
walking down the aisle pregnant.
• Tracy, 28: Smokin' hot film and television development executive Tracy is the newbie to the lesbian scene, and still struggling with the aftereffects of coming out to her family. Throughout The Real L Word, we'll watch Tracy juggle career, a new relationship and her ambivalent mother.
• Whitney, 27: We're bound to see some drama with this one! The Hollywood special effects artist is a self-professed terrible girlfriend, saying she's "always looking for love, but losing to lust." Keep an eye on this street-smart wild child.
• Nikki, 37: Already famous in her own right (she's a rep/manager/producer/industry bigwig, and publicly came out on The Oprah Winfrey Show!), Nikki is now engaged and planning her wedding to Real L Word costar Jill.
• Rose, 35: Listen up, fans of the original L Word—Rose was actually the inspiration for Papi. This real estate advisor is a "lotharia" who wants to settle down, but can't seem to shake her old habits. She's currently in a loving relationship and has the full support of her family.
• Mikey, 34: Also a bit of an L.A. celeb, Mickey is the founder of The Gallery Los Angeles and produces LA Fashion Weekend. She's also engaged and trying to plan a wedding...reluctantly. We'll see if she can balance her fiancée, clients and the motorcycle she loves so much.
• Jill, 33: This Jersey girl next door is engaged to costar Nikki and enjoys her career as a writer in Los Angeles. She, too, has the support of her family.
The Real L Word starts Sunday, June 20 at 10 p.m. on Showtime. Are you ready?
Oh, Lifetime Network, I just love you! I love your movies, I love your over-the-top movie titles, and I love your "Women Rule Even When They're Crazy Or When Men Are Beating The Shit Out Of Them!" attitude.
There aren't enough hours in the day for me to post clips or trailers from every single Lifetime drama I've ever seen and loved (or loved to hate), so I've chosen only three, and they're all true stories: "A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story" (1992), "A Cry For Help: The Tracy Thurman Story" (1989), and "Prayers For Bobby" (2009).
"A Woman Scorned: The Betty Broderick Story" is my favorite Lifetime movie of all time. Meredith Baxter stars as Betty Broderick, the wife of a rich, high-powered attorney. Her life is fabulous until her husband decides to leave her for a younger women. Betty snaps and, as IMDB puts it, "begins a campaign of vandalism and verbal assault. Her rage consumes her
and ultimately leads to a terrible and violent act." Yeah, that's putting it mildly.
Everybody's favorite "Facts Of Life" alum and tomboy Nancy McKeon stars in "A Cry For Help: The Tracy Thurman Story," a terrifying tale of a Connecticut woman who was married to a man who abused her and even slashed her throat in front of the cops. The cops are misogynistic morons who do as little as they can for her. Thurman then sues the city and the police department
for failing to protect her.
"Prayers for Bobby" stars Sigourney Weaver as Mary Griffith, a devout Christian and member of the Presbyterian Church, who becomes a gay rights crusader. Griffith raises her children guided by strict, conservative teachings, but when her son Bobby confides to his older brother he may be gay, and she discovers his secret, life changes for the entire family. Unfortunately for Bobby, Griffith believes God can cure him of what she considers his 'sin.' What happens next? You'll need to watch the movie to find out.
Oh, and if you have a favorite Lifetime movie, share the plot and post a link to a clip below.
